Works For Me Wednesday-

(With apologies, because I am trying to finish our Christmas cards.)

Since I am a stay at home mom, I often have to take my 2 year old along to do the grocery shopping because our nanny has the day off (*snort*) or he's just looking so particularly cute that day that it would be a shame not to show him off.

And E.B. is an angel for the most part on these marathon shopping excursions. You know...the one where you have to go to Super Wal-Mart or some other megastore because you need it all...household products AND groceries.

How do I keep my little man content while mommy shops until she drops?

Dum-Dum suckers. Yes indeed, folks. This Cracked Mama keeps a stash in her purse at all times. Is it the healthiest thing to offer him? Heck no, of course not. But darn if his little eyes don't just light up with sheer delight and his mouth is so busy working on that sucker that I don't hear a peep out of him for minutes. Minutes, folks!!

It's my dirty "mommy secret" and E.B. only gets these when he can't be otherwise pursuaded to stay in the shopping cart (even though, yes, he is securely fastened in). And that's about once a week...twice if you count sitting in big church, which I guess does count.

But it works for me. Now make me feel better and share one of your dirty mommy secrets! And go here to read more Works For Me Wednesdays and add your own!

Don't you just love those little things you find that make life easier for you and hey, more fun the kids!! Just think about the sweet memories E.B. will have of the "special" times when Mommy gave him a little treat. Hey, we all need something to help us get through those shopping times at Wal-Mart. Like valium or vodka - LOL. Do they make a lolly like that for adults?!

Bribery works for me...we go to the store and the kids promise that if I am good and don't fuss at them too much, I can have some chocolate at the end;)

That is so funny, my mom always has suckers in her purse. She has them for ANY kid she sees in public whose mother is having a tough time. Sometimes they are used for her grandchildren, sometimes she offers them to complete strangers. Sometimes the strangers look at her like she is strange, but some gratefully accept them.

Anyway, I just wanted to second that those little things REALLY do help!!! Not the healthiest, but can make a miserable situation much more tolerable, and I am ALL for that!

I have a picky eater. My dirty mommy secret is that whenever I served something my daughter insisted she didn't like, I would tell her it was chicken or beef - even if it was lamb or calamari. And she would eat it up.

She's in middle school now, so I can no longer get away with that one. (I dunno - once they can read the packages on the stuff you buy at the store, it's hard to put one over on them.) But for a couple of blessed years, it worked.

Good Morning Mommy,
I don't blame ya for giving your sweet little E.B. a sucker. I can just see a Woman carrying carrots or some other veggies in her purse right? LOL. And if your like me, you have everything in your purse but the kitchen sink. LOL. I would try to get the sink in there too, but I don't have room. LOL. I don't have any mommy secrets anymore. My girls are 11 and 9. So, they walk when I have to go to Wal-Mart. And believe you me, I hate going there. I don't go unless I just absolutely have to. And when I do go, I gripe about things all the time I'm in there. Well, take care my friend and have a great Wednesday. May God Bless You and Yours.

Hugs,
Karen H.

I had forgotten about this trick, thank you for reminding me. When my youngest is old enough this will come in handy!

I do the EXACT same thing. Melo has just gotten to the age where she's not content to just ride in the cart anymore. Dum Dums are my best friend at the grocery store!

I don't have any, but I do have lots of handy shopping tricks. One is to play fun games in the store.

Another is to just take it slow and explore the store with the little ones.

I'm not sure if I can post a link here, so if not, feel free to delete my message. :-)

Anyhow, here's my huge list of tips:

I made it for Christmas shopping, but it really works for all shopping with kids. :-)

PS - Sorry about the first delete. My link didn't work.

My Dirty Mommy Secret is that my son is only 9 months old and he has already tasted his first sucker...

Suckers are a favorite in our household, too. I love Dum-Dums because they're so small. And there's nothing sticky or messy on the inside.

My husband hates cleaning up the mess so he has outlawed them. Well, that is to say, when he is around. That 15 minutes of silence is SO worth any effort of cleaning up. Just wait until they are big enough for Tootsie Pops!

LOL! I'm with pennies.. you lost me at Christmas Cards. That there's a dirty word!
Glad my brownies tempted you :-) They are delectable!
Sorry you got booted from Top Momma! I love your avatar, too cute!
Dum Dums rock!! We use raisins and goldfish and occasionally Dum Dums. I just forget to buy the darn things.
You have a nanny, dude, I hate you :-) :-) LOL!
Thanks for visiting!

Aww, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one poisoning my child with bribery sweets!

Let it be known we do NOT have a nanny! I wish! LOL!!
